timed lights and Boston

If you’ve ever been in a taxi in New York, you know that lights go green successively so that traffic flow down a street is optimized. Not so in Boston. Lights are timed so that it is impossible to pass more than one light at a time.

I’m thinking of two roads in particular: Mass avenue north of the Charles and Main street in Everett. Holy shit. Going down these roads is like being part of an electrically controlled cattle drive. If there is no traffic, it’s pretty frustrating to watch the open road in front of you closed off due to another mistimed red light. If there is traffic, you just don’t get get anywhere. I refuse to be on these roads between the hours of 3-7 because I could skateboard to my destination faster (and I don’t know how to skateboard).
